???

Thanks, Andrew.
???, referred to as Inv or Enot by the community, is a secret, non-canon Slugcat added in Downpour. They are accessed by solving the riddle in the #Enot Riddle thread on the Rain World Discord. They begin the game in
Memory Crypts. They feature a variety of changes which make the game incredibly difficult to play, such as far more enemy spawns like
Red Lizards and
Red Centipedes, Shelter failures every cycle, and reworked regions with unique gimmicks.
For the main Slugcats page, see Slugcat.
Unlocking[edit | edit source]
??? has a unique unlock method compared to other Slugcats, having the player solve a riddle as opposed to simply beating the game with another Slugcat. As such, ??? can be accessed even if the player hasn't completed the
Survivor/
Monk campaigns, which is normally a prerequisite for every other Slugcat, as long as the player has the
More Slugcats Expansion enabled.
The main 4 riddles provided by the More Slugcats team are:
- "Chant His name upon 7 or 8 inscribed bricks of a pillar"
- "His name can be found in the door of the desert"
- "It does not matter whenever the door is opened, closed or passed through. The lock is the key and the key is the means."
- "Do as you have done before, give it a name"
It is highly recommended for players to solve the riddles themselves, as it gives insight into the origins of ??? and is the intended way to unlock them.
However, due to the riddle being complicated, the solution is preserved below for ease of access.

Type "sofanthiel" when on the main menu. Typing "sofantheil" also works.
The word "Sofanthiel" is found as graffiti in Metropolis around an eastern Shelter near a bunch of train cars.

Food[edit | edit source]
12 food pips are required to hibernate, and none can be stored for the next cycle.
Opening[edit | edit source]
???'s opening has them crouched down, sheltering from pre-cycle rain in Memory Crypts, with a reskinned
Singularity Bomb at their side.
Area: Shaded Citadel (Memory Crypts)
General Changes[edit | edit source]
- ??? has the attributes of Survivor.
- ??? has the throwing skill and Spear damage of Monk.
- ??? spawns with a
Singularity Bomb reskinned after AndrewFM's profile picture, the "eggzero", every cycle.
- This does not replace any existing Singularity Bombs, meaning that if one is not used when the player hibernates, they have two the following cycle.
- Some sound effects are changed, notably sounds where ??? is hurt, being replaced with loud, human-like grunts. The "game over" sound effect is replaced with AndrewFM saying either "game over, gamer", "good night, gamer", or "rest in peace, gamer".
- An Applebread voice clip plays after waiting on the main menu for a short period.
- Much of the non in-game music is altered. Specifically, this occurs on the main menu, all tracks played in Arena mode, and the Dating Sim. The music in these sections is dynamically slowed down.
- All
Slugpups that spawn are reskinned with the level editor Big Head displayed on their faces. These Slugpups behave as normal except on death, where they generate an explosion similar to that of a Singularity Bomb.
- An additional Singularity Bomb is spawned after the effect finishes.
- Slugpups spawn even if they have not been unlocked on the save file.
- An additional Singularity Bomb is spawned after the effect finishes.
- ??? can eat from slain creatures for half their normal food pips, like the
Gourmand.
- ??? can maul enemies by holding grab/eat while holding them, like the
Artificer.
- However, ??? does not have a method to reliably stun creatures in order to maul them, so the ability is fairly niche.
World Changes[edit | edit source]
- Shelter failures occur 100% of the time, even on cycle 0.
- This gives a tremendously long time between cycles that can be taken advantage of.
- Most regions accessible to any Slugcat has had major changes to make them harder, sillier, more unfair, or any combination of the three.
- Many of these regions have had their names changed as well.
- Many instances of graffiti that are normally found around the world have been replaced with different arts, some being previously unused, and some completely new.
Region Specific Changes[edit | edit source]
- Renamed to "we forgot to render this one sorry".
- All rendering and shading have been turned off, making everything look red and flat.
- Has a much higher quantity of enemies, most of which are
Red Lizards and
Red Centipedes.
- Filled with a large amount of
Train Lizards, a unique lizard variant that is as fast as an
Eggbug, can climb poles, and has an insanely fast bite with a 100% lethality rate.
- Renamed to "Painage System".
Snails spawn in randomly and create lethal explosions rather than their typical shockwaves.
- Large quantities of Red Centipedes lurk the area.
- Surprisingly,
Leeches remain unchanged.
- Whenever ??? leaves a pipe, a
Yeek spawns.
- ??? has greatly reduced jump height, and jumping instantly exhausts ???. Similar to
Gourmand, stamina can be recovered by being still. Yeeks allow for unhindered jumping and are necessary for traversal.
- ??? can jump normally in certain crucial areas, like shelters.
- Renamed to "Nachos Will Never Be The Same".
- Water is replaced with orange acid and can kill ??? and other creatures.
- This used to cause soft-locks, as the rain was killing ??? upon waking up in any
Shelter except the two close to the Industrial Complex gate. The issue was fixed by entirely removing pre-cycles from the region.
Garbage Worms can also be killed by this acid.
- This used to cause soft-locks, as the rain was killing ??? upon waking up in any
- The foreground is much darker, while the background has a bright orange filter placed over it.
- Relatively unchanged aside from the global increase in powerful enemy spawning.
- The Memory Crypts are much darker than usual.
- Renamed to "TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS".
- A pulsing rainbow overlay is placed over the foreground and background.
- A subregion exclusive to ??? can be found, called "Andrew's Basement", which features a dead end with graffiti depicting the More Slugcats Expansion team.
- Sump Tunnel
- Renamed to "Moist".
- Water is flipped upside-down, causing controls in water to be reversed and NPC AI to break.
- This currently is not working, and water works normally.
- Looks to the Moon
- Green electricity effects happen randomly around the screen.
- Many objects that would normally be found in
Five Pebbles can be found.
Looks to the Moon herself is unconscious, similarly to how the
Hunter finds her in their campaign.
- Has had many changes to it to make it similar to the Unfortunate Development subregion of Five Pebbles.
- Proto Long Legs can be found on many surfaces.
- Gravity changes on and at the sections near the Communication Array
- If the player is in a room affected by the gravity disruptor and reaches the edge of a screen, they are teleported to the other side of the room, meaning the player cannot float off away infinitely.
- This also allows the player to skip certain obstacles by teleporting to the other side of the screen.
- Many objects from Five Pebbles have been placed around the region.
- Communication Array
- Has a moderate amount of
Slime Mold.
- Proto Long Legs are more prevalent in this subregion.
- At the apex, you can find the gravity disruptor that is causing the change in gravity.
- Has a moderate amount of
Worm Grass is far more plentiful. Almost every room is littered with grass in very large amounts, and certain pipes and tunnels have dense patches. Standing still in most places means death.
- Electric zones, similar to the zappers inside of Five Pebbles (Recursive Transform Array), can be found scattered around the region, killing ??? and non-Rot creatures on contact. Several platforms and walls are affected.
- Proto Long Legs are found in incredibly high quantities.
- In a rare act of mercy, food in the form of Slime Mold is very plentiful, as well as
Flashbangs and
Mushrooms.
- The Leg
- Renamed to "Tower of Gains".
- Underhang
- Renamed to "Uberhang".
- The Wall
- Made impossible to climb up without a large amount of
Spears to stick into walls by Proto Long Legs.
- It is recommended that you bring a
Grappling Worm to traverse this section.
- Made impossible to climb up without a large amount of
- All gravity effects have been disabled in most rooms.
- Large amounts of yellow water as well as
Bubble Weed are found wherever there isn't gravity, allowing ??? to progress without anti-gravity.
- The threat of rain is still present in the region and only areas starting from General Systems Bus and higher are safe from it.
- Unfortunate Development
- Water quickly fills and empties in some rooms, simulating the typical alternation of gravity found in the subregion.
- Later parts of the subregion have the water removed in favor of the normal alternating gravity effects.
- Memory Conflux
- In some rooms, anti-gravity is present as normal in Five Pebbles.
- General Systems Bus
- Water is completely removed from the subregion, making it almost identical to the General Systems Bus found in most other campaigns.
- The background track ("Random Gods") is slowed and pitched down.
Five Pebbles himself has new dialogue, and his room is considerably darker.

- "Hello creature. You've come at the perfect time."
- "The solution has been found."
- "The solution is portable."
- "The solution has been implemented."
- "And it comes in three delicious flavors."
- "Five Pebbsi: Triple Affirmative"
- "..."
- "Would you like to try a sample?..."
- Five Pebbles then kills the player.Spoilers end here.
- Upon entering any room, the lighting slowly gets darker until it is pitch black.
- A light source is highly recommended to traverse this area.
- Depths
- Uniquely, has very few changes.
While technically being accessible to ???, Submerged Superstructure has received no changes.

Ending[edit | edit source]
This section the non-dialogue aspects of the ending. To see the dialogue, go to Dating Sim/Dialogue.
If the player manages to ascend with ???, after the final cutscene fades out, they are met with a Dating Simulator. It presents several different options below some descriptive text.
??? themselves is shown on the left, having several different unique sprites.
All of the endings involve a different Slugcat from the More Slugcats Expansion.
- If you go north, ??? meets
Spearmaster.
- If you go east, ??? meets
Rivulet and
Looks to the Moon.
- If you go west, ??? meets
Gourmand.
- If you go south, ??? meets
Artificer.
- If you go down, ??? meets
Saint.
- All non-failure endings involve the egg being cracked.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- ??? has a lot of different names from the community and otherwise.
- Enot is what they are generally referred to as by the creators of ???.
- Inv is what they are called in game files and in parts of the code.
- Sofanthiel is a reference to a meme in the MSC Discord, as well as the origins of ???; it is also their main name in the code.
- Paincat is what they are called on the Speedrun.com leaderboard, coined by speedrunner ICED.
- ???'s colors, as well as much of their in-game art, are derived from art of the
Survivor with their colors inverted.
- Although not canon, it is thought that ???'s campaign could have a place after
Artificer and before
Hunter, considering the state that
Looks to the Moon is in.
- Datamining supports this - the More Slugcats timeline is explicitly given within the code of the game, with this placement confirmed.[1]
- One thing against this is that
Hunter Long Legs can spawn, however this may just be Andrew using Hunter Long Legs due to their massive health pool, and therefore difficulty, to make this campaign even worse than it already is.
- Additionally, with the amount of
Rot seen in The Exterior also implies that the campaign takes place near/after
Rivulet, but once again, this campaign is meant to be unfair, not sensible.
- ??? currently cannot be selected as a character for anything but their single-player campaign. Once ??? Mode is triggered, however, Slugpups spawned in Arena Mode have relevant changes.
- However, ???'s world can be selected for Safari Mode, so long as the player has slept in a Shelter as ??? in a relevant region.
