Cyan Lizards, also known as Leapzards or Leap-Lizards, are an agile and aggressive species of Lizard. They are the most mobile Lizards, able to climb across walls and terrain while also being capable of launching themselves at high speeds.

They are found natively across many regions as Hunter and in ✔️DLCMore Slugcats Expansion campaigns, and they may be lineaged as Monk or Survivor.

Cyan Lizards have a 33.3% or 1/3 bite lethality rate.

Appearance

Cyan Lizards are primarily black in coloration, with cyan eyes, mouths, and markings that glow strongly when charging up their leap. Their colors can vary from greenish-turquoise to light blue. They may sometimes feature wing-scales of varying sizes and positions, and often have unique patterns on their leaf-shaped tails, as well as other frills and feathers adorning it.

Tips

Combat

While Cyan Lizards are fast and aggressive, they do not have much health, taking 2-4 Spear hits to kill; therefore, the main difficulty lies in managing to hit them due to their high mobility. Stunning them with Rocks knocks them off walls and prevents them from leaping, giving an opportunity to hit them with a Spear. Hitting them with a projectile while they are in mid-air also prevents them from grabbing onto anything for a few seconds, potentially leading to them falling to their deaths.

Stealth

Cyan Lizards tend to stay on the move, patrolling areas quickly, making it easy to wait for them to move past and sneak around them. They are common in areas with many alternative paths and places to hide.

Evasion

Cyan Lizards are difficult to escape from, as they are able to follow Slugcat almost anywhere. They can be evaded by luring them to jump away, then using the opportunity to slip past. Vulture Masks are particularly invaluable in warding off Cyan Lizards as due to their high speed, they run away significantly faster compared to other Lizards, creating more space before the Vulture Mask's effect wears off.

Abilities & Behavior

Climbing

Cyan Lizards can climb on walls, ceilings, and background walls. They are capable of grabbing onto background walls at any point while falling through the air unless stunned.

Leap

Cyan Lizards are able to launch themselves using their tails, allowing them to traverse distances very quickly. They perform a short windup, during which their tail is held stiff and vibrates. Depending on how long they charge up, they may perform either a single leap that launches them a great distance, or a sequence of shorter, rapid-fire leaps. Both can be chained together and propel them through the air until they hit the ground or grab onto a wall.

Tongue

Cyan Lizards possess a short tongue which they can use to latch onto and reel in prey.

Taming

Cyan Lizards have low taming difficulty, typically requiring only 1 feeding.

Cyan Lizards are a good pick as a long-term companion, as they are capable of entering every region, although some regions may be difficult for them to travel through. However, combat in conjunction with a Cyan Lizard can be challenging at times due to their tendency to leap everywhere combined with low health making it easy to accidentally hit and kill them. That being said, they are capable of contributing a modest amount of damage in fights, and their speed allows them to save Slugcat from other creatures' jaws.

A good place to tame Cyan Lizards is around the rightmost hub of Sky Islands, just before the bridges leading to Chimney Canopy; as Hunter, there are plenty of Squidcadas available and a single Cyan Lizard den in the same room, making it trivial to tame one within a cycle due to their low taming requirement.

Cyan Lizard lineage dens can be viewed on the interactive map.

Variants & Attributes

Cyan Lizards have the second smallest color variation possible, beat only by Red Lizards. Their cosmetic colors vary from teal to turquoise.

Cyan Lizards have eight possible cosmetic features: TailGeckoScales, WingScales, TailTuft, LongHeadScales, SpineSpikes, ShortBodyScales, LongShoulderScales, and BumpHawk. While these may occur on any Cyan Lizard, they always have the JumpRings cosmetic, which is exclusive to them. The WingScales and TailGeckoScales cosmetics are also exclusive to Cyan Lizards.[v1.9 Remix only]

Cyan Lizard tails are unique in that they taper near the base before widening, giving them a bulbous appearance.

Trivia

A Cyan Lizard suffering a gas leak.
  • Cyan Lizards were added in the 1.5 update.
  • When hit by a Spear, their leaping ability may go haywire, leaking gas from the wound and flying around similarly to a deflating balloon.
    • This is guaranteed if the Cyan Lizard is leaping or is preparing to leap. Otherwise, this has a 25% chance to occur with hits to the head, and 50% for rest of the body. It can only happen to an individual Cyan Lizard once per cycle.
      • The erratic leaping doesn't occur if the Spear pierced the Lizard in the throat or if it was deflected off the headshield.
    • This frequently ends up throwing them into death pits in Sky Islands, Chimney Canopy, and The Exterior.
    • This may result in the Spear being ejected from the Cyan Lizard.
    • Curiously, whatever reaction that occurs inside the tail that allows Cyan Lizards to leap generates enough heat to distort the air around it.
  • Cyan Lizards hunt and eat Blue Lizards.
  • Cyan Lizards have the ability to walk on ceilings, unlike White Lizards. This is a trait shared with Blue Lizards.
  • Cyan Lizards have one of the lowest same-species rivalry levels, beaten only by Black Lizards and Yellow Lizards.
