An Easter Egg refers to any in-game content that is hidden or otherwise obscure, often relating to the game itself or community knowledge, and referencing other games or aspects of Rain World's history and its developers.

Heartbreak (Fez)

Within the Saint's campaign, there is a reference to the game Fez, via a secret room found within the later areas of the late-game Region Rubicon. Within the uppermost right area of the Region, there is the room HR_R16, which is an upside-down version of the long pipe drop with a shelter adjacent to it in Drainage System, located near the Gate to Garbage Wastes. The smaller pipe adjacent to the larger shaft on the right-side of the room contains a small symbol marking the otherwise unmarked pipe, which can be crawled upwards beyond the initial pole, where upon stopping, the player can turn and move to the right, before stopping once again in which they can start moving upwards, before shortly reaching a long pipe connection to another room, transitioning from a screen with just the upside-down Void Sea into the room known as HR_LAYERS_OF_REALITY.

The World Machine (Oneshot)

Main Article: Pearl/Dialogue Within the pool of dialogue available from Five Pebbles when bringing generic white Pearls to him as Artificer, there is this string of text;

This is incomplete source code for a complex simulation of our world, known as The World Machine. However, public ascension concluded long before it could be finished by its author.

The part about "The World Machine" is a reference to OneShot, a game about a simulation known as The World Machine, a sentient entity which, as mentioned is a simulation/re-creation of a world, hence the name.

Challenge 70 (Touhou)

Main Article: Challenges

Challenge 70 spins Rain World's gameplay into a pattern-based, bullet hell type challenge inspired by the Touhou Project.

Hunter Long Legs

Main Article: Hunter Long Legs

Hunter Long Legs is a Creature encountered within Gourmand's campaign if the player has a save file of Hunter in which they had permanently died. Upon entering the same room in which the player Hunter had permanently died, Gourmand encounters the Hunter Long Legs, the reanimated corpse of the Hunter, taking a form similar to a mobile Rot cyst, although much smaller, with the same solid pink / reddish color of Hunter, with a visible but largely malformed Slugcat corpse within the center mass.

Location of the Intro Sequence

The introductory sequence that plays at the start of the stories for Survivor and Monk can be found as a set of rooms within Outer Expanse, foremost there being the Slugcat populated Tree Home at the ends of Outer Expanse, which grants the two different endings for Gourmand, depending on whether the player completed the food quest or not. This area also serves as an alternate ending for Survivor and Monk where for Survivor, a sequence will play showing them encountering and going inside of the now abandoned Tree Home, which dynamically reflects the amount of Slugpups the player has with them during the sequence, and for Monk, they will also be shown encountering the Tree Home, but this time with Survivor and two Slugpups located inside, being reunited with their long lost sibling.

The other aspect of this intro sequence are the various rooms that the Slugcats travel through, with a cave full of Centipedes and the pipe bridge across a ravine, in which dropping down, the player will be transported to Facility Roots, a subregion within Outer Expanse that acts as a fast travel back to Outskirts.

Eggspedition

Interestingly, Cyan Lizard and Slugcat flash together with the same frequency.

In any Expedition, there are eight invisible egg spots that are activated when Slugcat remains within 1 tile for 5 seconds continuously. Each egg spot can only be activated by one of the eight Slugcats. When activated, a color-changing circle radiates from the egg spot and the sound effect used for obtaining the Mark of Communication plays. Once an egg spot has been activated and the player has hibernated to save their progress, a progress indicator appears between the Configure Perks & Burdens and Start New Expedition buttons on the Expedition Challenges menu. The indicator contains a colored dot corresponding to the relevant Slugcat's color for each activated egg spot. Internally, the process of activating the spots is known as Eggspedition.

The hint for the locations of the egg spots can be found in the Gameplay Changes section of the Expedition Mode manual.

List of egg spots
Slugcat Region Room Location
Monk Sky Islands SI_A06
Survivor Outskirts SU_B07
Hunter Farm Arrays LF_F02
Gourmand Pipeyard VS_C04
Artificer Metropolis LC_elevatorlower
Rivulet Submerged Superstructure MS_bitteraerie6
Spearmaster Looks to the Moon DM_ROOF01
Saint Undergrowth UG_GUTTER03

Upon activating the 8th egg spot, Slugcat immediately gains a rainbow aura and changes colors over time. In future Expeditions, the aura can be activated or deactivated by a button that replaces the progress indicator. The button also gives all Cyan Lizards the same effect.
