A Scavenger's grenade being detonated by a Spear.

Grenades, commonly known as Bombs and referred to in-code as Scavenger Bombs, are explosive weapons typically found in areas associated with  Scavengers. They are small black orbs with a red center. When thrown, Grenades instantly explode on impact, dealing significant damage and launching anything caught in the blast at high speeds. If the player is caught within the blast radius close to the Grenade, they are instantly killed.

Function

Combat

Grenades are effectively useless in close quarters and risky at mid-range due to the high risk of self-stunning or death from their explosion.

Grenades are useful when targeting large groups of creatures - particularly Scavengers, as their ability to carry explosives brings the potential for chain-explosions. When traveling, carrying Grenades in the Slugcat's stomach can be useful for avoiding accidental detonations. Creatures can also be launched into pits due to the high stun and knockback.

Grenades are very unstable and detonate soon after being hit by Rubbish or a Spear, even while carried by the player or other creatures. They also detonate immediately when caught in the blast radius of an explosion. The player could use this to their advantage by staying in a pipe or open area with Grenades while in a crawl position, to knock back or kill a creature more effectively in different circumstances.

A Grenade thrown underwater doesn't explode, even if it hits a wall. When thrown at the water's surface, the Grenade can bounce off of it, or it may fall underwater and be disarmed. Any Grenade thrown into acid detonates upon contact with it.

Trivia

  • Creatures hit by Grenades leave a trail of smoke behind them as they are launched.
