Jungle Leeches are a type of Leech that has the unique ability to survive out of water and drain food pips from Slugcat. They can be found in humid regions such as Outer Expanse.

Appearance

Jungle Leeches are small, green, tubular creatures. Aside from their green coloration, they are identical in appearance to Red Leeches.

Tips

Evasion

Jungle Leeches can be avoided similarly to other Leech variants. However, in the case that Jungle Leeches latch on to Slugcat, they do not fall off on their own and must be removed by other means.

It is possible to hit Leeches attached to Slugcat using several advanced movement techniques, such as a down-throw, up-throw, or extended slide.

In Outer Expanse, it is often possible to stand in Worm Grass briefly, allowing the Leech to be eaten while keeping Slugcat safe.

In Drainage System and Undergrowth, Snails can be used to stun them.

If the Remix option "Wiggle out of grasps" is enabled, Jungle Leeches can be removed by 'wiggling' (rapidly pressing movement inputs).

Abilities & Behavior

Like other Leeches, Jungle Leeches swim through bodies of water and attempt to latch onto nearby creatures. However, they can sometimes be found outside of water and are still capable of attaching to creatures while on land. They are able to survive out of water without drying up; consequently, they can remain attached to creatures indefinitely. They can sometimes make large upward lunges, unlike other Leeches which have limited mobility on land.

Jungle Leeches have the ability to drain food pips from Slugcat. After enough time passes with a Jungle Leech attached, Slugcat loses 1 food pip. Food pips drain faster when more Jungle Leeches are attached. If Slugcat hibernates with a Jungle Leech latched onto them and has food pips to spare, 1 stored food pip is drained at the beginning of the next cycle. Jungle Leeches can kill Slugcat without drowning them if they attempt to drain food while Slugcat has an empty food bar and is stunned for at least 1.4 seconds.

Creatures other than Slugcat are stunned instead of having food drained. When stunned for a long enough time (up to 7.5 seconds depending on creature mass), the creature is killed instantly. This has the unusual side effect that hitting and stunning a creature that has Jungle Leeches attached may cause them to immediately die.
