Metropolis is a late-game region that is only accessible to Artificer. It is a sprawling city-like complex, filled with primed machinery and a surplus of Scavengers. It is located at the top of the Five Pebbles complex.

Overview

Metropolis is an ancient city built on top of Five Pebbles' superstructure. The city became abandoned and derelict in the absence of its former residents, with wildlife like Scavengers settling in it. The city entrance's Karma gate is restricted to citizens only, requiring an ID drone to enter. Artificer is the only Slugcat that can enter Metropolis thanks to their drone, Sofanthiel.

The upper and middle levels of Metropolis consist of vast open-air rooms facing a desert scenery shared by the top of The Exterior The Wall. Hordes of Scavengers reside in numerous Scavenger Tolls and patrol between rooms. The skies are inhabited by dangerous aerial predators such as King Vultures, while terrestrial predators such as Lizards and Dropwigs make enclosed spaces hazardous to traverse. Some rooms feature crevices that require large horizontal or vertical traversal, making Artificer's ability and utilization of Grappling Worms or Squidcadas invaluable. The lower sections of the region have various decrepit shafts and subway tunnels resembling Subterranean and is home to small populations of Coalescipedes, Lizards, and Miros Birds.

Overseers are very common in this region, often projecting advertisements of different products used by the Ancients. Various holographic displays of karma symbols can be seen in the interior chambers of the structure, indicating that the structure retains power even in its current state.

Creatures

Instead of raining, the end of a cycle transitions day into night. This changes the threat music to a different track and increases the difficulty of spawns.

    Subregions

    Atop the Tallest Tower

Atop the Tallest Tower is a tall spike structure at the center of the Metropolis, similar to other towers seen above the clouds while climbing The Exterior The Wall, with the tower giving a clear view over the city and stretch of clouds below. The subregion houses no creatures, excluding few Centipedes at the bottom of the spire; the long drops to either side are the only hazard present.

The top of this subregion is home to an Echo.

    The Floor

The Floor is a large, dimly-lit slum mainly home to Yellow Lizards and Scavengers located on the middle and lower layers. The lowest layers comprise dilapidated subway areas containing Miros Birds and Coalescipedes. It provides several safer yet more winding routes leading to the eastern subregion.

12th Council Pillar, the House of Braids

This large complex is at the east of Metropolis, containing grand architecture and possibly functional parts of Five Pebbles. Technology seen in Iterator superstructures such as low gravity, Neuron Flies, and Inspectors can be found here. Various primed Gravity Disruptors, red emergency lighting, and gold luminescent glyphs engraved on the walls accommodate the subregion. Small swarms of Coalescipedes wander the enclosed hallways.

Above this architecture is home of the Chieftain Scavenger, a magnificent dome-shaped hall reminiscent of a coliseum. Its entrance can be accessed from the left through a heavily-guarded Scavenger Toll or from the right after ascending a long elevator shaft.
